Just another opinion of someone who cares

Recent world events seem to really have set the stage for UN “leaders” to display their true colors so vivid that even a color blind can not continue to be ignorant.

When UN was formed in 1945 its key purpose was defined as:

“To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;”

Nobody in their right mind would argue with such a noble cause; yet, - what happens when the organization and principles it supposed to represent are no longer the same? What happens when demagoguery begins to damage the very reason for the organization’s existence? What happens when communal bodies the organization was designed to subdue or rid of utilize it a tool for their purpose?

Today, three weeks after the conflict in Lebanon and Israel has erupted interrupting long lasting demagoguery on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the French foreign minister Phillippe Douste-Blazy was caught assuring the world Iran is, in fact, a stabilizing force in the Middle East.

Poverty stricken Russia sitting on the sidelines refusing to take any action against its old allies and those few in the world that still make it feel superior.

The two above would be a sufficient deterrent to enter any type of negotiation if any meaningful results are to be expected, but with 1.3 billion Chinese looking out for their own economic interests with full knowledge that acting against fanatics in the Middle East will hurt its economic stability in arms sales and oil purchases any negotiations become quite pointless.

At the core of the problem there are cold facts – nations look out for their interests only, and individuals look out for interests of their nations for the duration of their own time in office.

It is much easier to sign oil contract with Iran that will literally fuel Chinese economy without much regard for what consequences that will bring in a decade when Iran finishes nuclear research. It is easier to praise Iran for stabilization of the region then have a possibility of 5 million Muslims rioting on the streets of Paris. French have had a history of rolling over and playing dead, why not employ the same tactic now if it worked before?
It is much better to say nothing then to admit to their own people that they are in the deep of it and they should expect for things to get much worse before it gets better and that perhaps “Mother Russia” is not as much of a econo-military force as it presents itself to be for centuries. It is much better not to hurt the pride.

There is no hope of changing the situation; equally there is no hope for people to ignore millions of years of evolution and suddenly to do what is right by sacrificing or degrading their own positions. Altruism is a rare trait found in mostly religious circles, the UN is definitely not an organization where you could find any of it at all.

So if the organization is so corrupt and incapable of fulfilling its mandate what is the reason for United States participating in it? Why spend time on loud word about “bringing international community” to bear on issues that will not be solved because of national and personal self-interests? Why bother to pay for a “peace keeping” army that’s not only incapable but also unwilling to keep any peace but its own?

The United Nations has lost not in cause but in the implementation.

On a personal level I’m a strong supporter of United States withdrawing its economic, financial and military support from the UN, abandoning the pipe dream idea of world peace and cohesive world level resolutions and, instead, employing the tactic of actually dealing with problems at hand.

"In the region there is of course a country such as Iran - a great country, a great people and a great civilization which is respected and which plays a stabilizing role in the region,"
